IJIS Institute Members:
Nominations for IJIS Institute Board of Directors election open on Monday, April 10, 2023, with all letters of intent due by Friday, May 5, 2023 (5:00 p.m. EDT). There are two open board seats.
As a Director of the Institute, a board member has an opportunity to contribute to and influence the role of the Institute as it serves industry, and the justice, public safety and homeland security sectors. The duties include setting the Institute’s policy, collaborating with practitioners and communicating the Institute’s message around the country. Service requirements include attending quarterly meetings, participating on committees, and volunteering time and energy in support of the industry. A more detailed description of the Director’s position can be found in the attached document.
Election procedures are outlined below. Please read the information carefully and let us know if you have any questions.
Application: Interested candidates must submit a letter of interest and a brief biography including a summary of qualifications to email@example.com by Friday, May 5, 2023 (5:00 p.m. EDT). This letter should state the individual’s qualifications, why he or she is interested, and the benefits they can bring to the Institute via this important position. The Institute’s Nomination Committee will make the letters of interest and biographies available to the membership during the election process.
Nomination: Once applications are received, the Nomination Committee will interview each of the candidates. Interviews will be conducted by telephone between Tuesday, May 9, 2023, and Friday, May 26, 2023. Interviews will include questions regarding the nominee’s background, expected time commitment, and qualifications for the position. These interviews will be used to present candidates to the current Board for review and endorsement. The Board’s endorsement of candidates will be distributed to the Membership.
Withdrawal Period: If any nominee wishes to withdraw their nomination, they may do so until Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
Announcement: The Board of Directors will present the list of candidates to Institute Members, along with voting instructions with a link to the voting site and credentials on Friday, June 9, 2023.
Bypass Candidates: If a qualified individual wishes to add their name to those listed on the Preliminary Ballot, they may do so without going through the interview process. Bypass candidates must submit their intention to run via email to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 5:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Campaigning: Campaigning by candidates IS ENCOURAGED AND PERMITTED throughout the entire election process until balloting closes. Members can expect a call or other communication from some or all of the candidates and can request to be omitted from the contact list should they so desire. The Institute will provide each candidate a list of voting Points of Contact (POC) to help facilitate outreach.
Voting: Voting will begin on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 12:01 a.m. EDT and all ballots must be submitted on the voting website by 9 a.m. EDT, Monday, July 3, 2023.
Results: Votes will be automatically tabulated on the voting site and certified by the Board Secretary. The results will be announced to the Membership on Monday, July 3, 2023. New Directors will be provided with specific information for the Summer 2023 Board Meeting at that time as well.
