Ashburn, VA., November 30th – The IJIS Institute recently awarded the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and Marquis Software with the 2023 IJIS Corrections Information Technology Recognition at its National Symposium in Tysons Corner, VA. This award is in support of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Inmate & Community Offender Network (ICON) Project.
In 2019, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections released a Request for Proposal (RFP) to acquire an Offender Management System (OMS) and related services, maintenance and support, and enhancements. The goal of the solicitation was to procure a modern information management system that would replace the ancillary systems currently in use and allow the addition of more advanced technological tools such as cloud hosting, mobile applications, geo-mapping, and advance business intelligence options.
This implementation will provide the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, their 27 correctional facilities, 68 community supervision offices, and 5,000 staff with enterprise-wide functionality and access. Transitioning from a legacy system to a modern OMS, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections committed to improving processes, data accuracy, staff engagement, public safety, and measurable outcomes, all ultimately improving operations for the agency.
The Corrections Information Technology Recognition honors a team achievement for technical innovation between industry partner(s) and one or more practitioner agency(ies) that significantly contributed to the advancement of corrections information technology in the public sector. More information is available online regarding the IJIS awards.
When asked about this year’s award recipient, IJIS Executive Director Maria Cardiellos stated, “An agency transitioning from a legacy system is one of the most costly and complex IT challenges an agency will ever face. I commend the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and their partnership with Marquis Software for creating a blueprint that can be implemented at other agencies nationwide. Their commitment to enhancing operational outcomes through improved data sharing while utilizing national standards in support of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) is exemplified through this initiative. We applaud the results.”
