The IJIS Data Quality Working Group, under the guidance of the IJIS Institute’s Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Advisory Committee, will address the issue that criminal justice agencies and solution providers face regarding data quality. Criminal justice agencies collect significant amounts of data daily in their information systems (in-house or commercial-of-the-shelf (COTS)), and the data is often incorrectly recorded in the systems of record. This is often caused by a high number of incidents reported, a shortage of resources within the agencies, and lack of training. Also, as the data gets shared with other CJIS partners, the potentially faulty data is augmented and does not ultimately provide a complete nor accurate view of the incidents. As a result, final reports, subsequent analytics, and/or operational responses are negatively affected. Establishing the working group will enable collaboration amongst partners to improve the quality and subsequent data outcomes thereafter.
